Form and Appearance

A neat letter will visually express your gratitude in receiving the award or scholarship. The donor will value the time and effort you took to produce an attractive and thoughtful letter. The Office of Donor Relations will forward your letter as part of an annual report to the benefactor/s.

Sometimes, a handwritten letter is warm and more personal. If you handwrite your letter, please be sure it is legible. Choose an appropriate note card or social stationery, and write very carefully. (You can avoid errors in diction and awkward phrases by first drafting your letter on scrap paper, and then transcribing it onto the final version.)

Most students type their letters, and this is the preferred method. If you use a word-processor, please print your letter on good copy or bond paper. Alternatively, you may to submit your letter electronically. (You will have the option to submit a digital photograph under separate cover.)
