Fund Assignment

Q:
Is this scholarship part of my Financial Aid package?
A:
Yes.

This scholarship identifies one source of the “Vassar Scholarship” awarded as part of your Financial Aid package. You may, in fact, be named to more than one scholarship, but such awards are not additional financial aid.

The amount of Vassar Scholarship awarded to individual students is based solely on financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. The amount of the scholarship may vary from one year to the next based on federal guidelines used to determined financial need and changes in the financial situation of the recipient’s family (increase or decrease in income, for example, or a change in the size of the family or the number of dependents in college). The preference or restrictions imposed by donors on endowments or gifts do not, in any way, have an impact on the amount of Vassar Scholarship awarded to individual students.

Fund Assignment is the term given to the process of allocating the various scholarship resources to cover the Vassar Scholarship expenditures for all students in any award year. In its selection of a student or students for a specific fund, the College must first ensure that the candidate/s satisfy any preferences or restrictions established by the donor. Secondly, the students selected are generally those students who are involved in a variety of interesting activities and educational experiences at Vassar. Information gathered from the Vassar Scholarship Survey Form completed each year by scholarship recipients provides a helpful background for making these decisions.
